ICYMI: Rev1's Top 5 Posts, January 2024
Check out some of Revolution of 1's most popular posts from January 2024.
D.E.I. MUST DIE:
“I'm an exceptional performer. I've always been an exceptional performer. My elite training made me even MORE of an exceptional performer. I've earned this arrogance.
SOME of us don't need ‘Progressives’ to condescend to us, trying to fix what was never broken.”
So says veteran actor and Rev1 contributor Clifton Duncan, whose recent X/Twitter post criticizing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives went viral.
The post attracted so much traction that it was picked up by outlets such as Newsweek, and caught the attention of X-owner and Tesla founder Elon Musk.
Duncan adapted the post for a newsletter, which can be read in full below:
JAVIER MILEI SLAMS SOCIALISM
“I’m here to tell you that the Western world is in danger.”
So began a 20-minute speech at the World Economic Forum by newly-elected Argentinian President Javier Milei that quickly went viral, as he warned that the world is quickly advancing toward socialism.
Attacking everything from over-regulation to taxation, Milei even took direct aim at the concept of “Social Justice,” a hot-button issue in the United States:
”This concept, which in the developed world became fashionable in recent times, in my country has been a constant in political discourse for over 80 years. The problem is that social justice is not just, and it doesn’t contribute to general well-being.”
DAVE CHAPPELLE STRIKES AGAIN
In “The Dreamer”, Dave Chappelle’s latest Netflix special, the popular comedian quadruples down on his refusal to omit jokes about sexual minorities from his routines.
The special currently has an 85% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, but has largely been ignored by professional critics.
Comedians have long pushed the envelope of what’s acceptable to joke about. But in an era where inclusion and belonging are seen as primary virtues, many argue that it’s time for free speech advocates and comics alike to evolve with changing social norms.

THE COLOR PURPLE DRAMA
This one got heated!
Powerhouse performer Taraji P. Henson has been making headlines recently, with her impassioned remarks not only about subpar conditions behind the scenes of The Color Purple, but also about pay disparities among black performers in Hollywood.
We feel for Ms. Henson—her resume speaks for itself—but we argued that even the most gifted artists must learn how to be builders if they want to survive in the belly of the beast that is Hollywood (see Shonda Rhimes, Issa Rae, or Tyler Perry).
Many commenters disagreed.
